Lunar Command

Description

Save the lunar population by protecting the moon base from a vicious alien attack! Shoot down invading missiles with your rockets and protect your base from destruction.

History

This modern remix of the 1980 classic Missile Command combines great game play with a rather chilling message about the dangers of war. The game is also interesting in its manifestation of the Cold War's effects on popular culture, in that the game features an implementation of National Missile Defense and parallels real life nuclear war.

The idea for Missile Command began with a magazine story about satellites that captured the attention of Atari's president, who asked Dave Theurer to lead the effort in creating the classic, action-packed arcade game. It is considered one of the most notable games from the Golden Age of Video Arcade Games and was licensed to Sega & Taito for European and Japanese markets.
